+ | ==International ban==
+ | On the final day of Kernansquillec's domestic season, [[Football_in_Kernansquillec#First_Division|First Divison]] team Guingamp were playing Haut Corlay in what was essentially a playoff for qualification to the [[Globe Cup]]. A final score of 2-2 left a number of Guingamp fans angry, leading to a number of violent clashes within the stadium and in the surrounding streets, where running battle were fought between fans of both sides, as well as riot police. One Guingamp supporter was killed, while several other persons were severely injured. Given the severity of the violence, the UICA decided to suspend the KERFA's right to send clubs to its international competitions for three seasons.
+ | |||
+ | Despite the supporters of the national side never having shown any sort of violent actions on their travels in recent times, the World Cup Committee took the decision to also ban Kernansquillec's international teams from all international football for the same period, much to the outrage of Kernansquillecans. Following the double whammy decisions, most foreign players in the country decided to seek pastures new and investment in professional clubs slowed considerably. Senior staff of the National team, including star manager Harry Broudant, were laid off. He would later to return to the National set up once the ban was lifted in order to manage Kernansquillec's Olympic football teams.

Kernansquillec is a nation located in the Goose Coast region of Rushmore. The national football team, known by the name of their country, but also by nicknames such as the Green and Whites, the Kers or the Green Stalions, represent the country at major international tournaments.
Their home ground in the National Stadium, also known as the Green Jewel, located in the capital, Kernansquillec City. It can hold up to 110 000 spectators.
Kernansquillec's greatest hour so far came when they qualified for World Cup 57. They also finished 4th at the 42nd Baptism of Fire, while the Women's Olympic Football Team won a silver medal at the Games of the VI Olympiad, hosted by Cafundéu.

History
Kernansquillec have a short but rich history in international football. Their first appearance on the World stage came at the 42nd Baptism of Fire hosted in Legalese and Erathore. After winning the 64 team first round, Kernansquillec went on to finish 4th overall, losing on penalties in the semi-final before falling to a 4-3 defeat against Cheergirls.
Qualifying for World Cups 55 and 56 came to no avail, but the side was develloping into a decent team. The 48th Cup of Harmony was somewhat of a breakthrough with the side making it to the quarter-finals.
Olympic success arrived for the female side of the national team at the Games of the VI Olympiad. While the men fell at the group stage, the ladies impressed many, going all the way to the final which they lost 2-1 against hosts Cafundéu.
The Olympic success, coupled with the rising stars that had done well at the 19th Di Bradini Cup, finishing 4th, led on to the qualifying round for the 57th World Cup. While it was still somewhat of an upset, the Kernansquillecans finished 2nd in their group to set up a playoff date with Khabarovsk Krai: a 3-2 win after extra time sealed the Kers' place in the 57th World Cup proper for the first time in their history.
World Cup 58 would also see the Green and Whites reach the playoffs, however a 3-0 reverse against Bostopia ended Kernansquillecan dreams of a second World Cup in a row.
The 2018 World Cup was to be Kernansquillec's last until the 68th edition. Political tensions were already high and the 59th World Cup was somewhat of a sideshow. 12 goals in as many matches was far to few to take the Kers to the finals, with them finishing 4th in their group.
A 39 year absence from the international stage was to follow. The Great War and the following aftermath taking its toll. The Green and Whites only reemerged for World Cup 68 in 2057 with a team composed of little known players who had only recently turned professional within KERFA's new league structure. However a very strong and spirited showing from the side would see them finish 3rd in their group, pulling off a number of surprises along the way. The prize was a two legged play-off against Kandorith. The dream was not to be however, with a 4-0 second leg defeat leading to a 7-3 aggregate loss.
This new generation of Kernansquillecan players have shown themselves to be good players: following on from their World Cup Qualifying performance the Kers reached the quarter-finals of the 2058 Copa Rushmori, losing 4-3 to Valladares. The Under 21 side have also shown their talent, finishing 3rd at the most recent Di Bradini Cup.
Kernansquillec failed to qualify for World Cup 69, finishing 5th in qualifying group 24. A round of sixteen appearance at the 19th Copa Rushmori followed but it wasn't good enough for the KERFA who didn't renew Rachael Sandheart's contract. Gabby Indignu replaced her before the start of qualifying for World Cup 70, taking Kernansquillec to within a point of a playoff spot.
Gabby Indignu took the side to a respectable 3rd place in qualifying for World Cup 70 and then to the last sixteen of the 20th Copa Rushmori. However after Kernansquillec had their worst ever qualifying attempt ever, failing to win a single tie during the second round of games, Indignu was sacked by the KERFA. Harry Broudant was named as her replacement. Broudant would lead the team to major improvements, finishing runners-up at Copa Rushmori 21 and qualifying twice in a row for World Cup 73 and 74, before Kernansquillec were banned from international football for three years due to crowd trouble during a domestic league match. The team returned to international competition at the Games of the XI Olympiad.

The "long break"
As the build up to the Great War began to affect normal daily life, the ability to maintain the national team faltered and resulted in the team being withdrawn from the international scene. It would remain absent for 39 years as the country suffered from and rebuilt after the Great War.

International ban
On the final day of Kernansquillec's domestic season, First Divison team Guingamp were playing Haut Corlay in what was essentially a playoff for qualification to the Globe Cup.
Despite the supporters of the national side never having shown any sort of violent actions on their travels in recent times, the World Cup Committee took the decision to also ban Kernansquillec's international teams from all international football for the same period, much to the outrage of Kernansquillecans.
