The Federal Republic of Artstotszka (Artstotszkan Empire, or FRA), commonly referred to as Artstotszka, is a federal republic in Audax consisting of 8 Provinces. The 5 contiguous Provinces are in the Western coast of the westernmost continent, between Hawkwick, Heimar and Vandinium. The Province of Artstotszka (also the most populated, as well as containing the capital Paradizna) is the Large Landmass Northwest of the continent, and the Provinces Elora and Crystallix are archipelagos in the mid-western ocean. With around 2.7 Billion people, Artstotszka is the world's 2nd by total area and 4th-largest by population.

Ancient Kitari migrated from Ancient Vandinium to what is now the Artstotszkan mainland around 17,000 years ago, with Hawkwickan (Attempted) colonization beginning in the 14th century. The Empire of Artstotszka emerged from the Artstotszkan Tribal union, the lose amalgamation of Kitari tribes inhabiting the land (However, the monarchy line existed long before these events, with the royal line beginning 17,000-17,500 years ago). Skirmishes between The Altberg Empire and The Union led to the Colonial War. The war ended in 1523 with the Entire west coast of the continent. (However, the land containing the Vipuran Province would not be reclaimed until 1731),

Driven by the desire to evict their colonial oppressors from the land, Artstotszka embarked on a Massive expansion across the continent throughout the 19th century. This involved displacing colonial settlers, acquiring new territories, and gradually annexing said territories into the country proper. By the end of the 19th century, the United States extended into the Pacifica Ocean, and its economy began to soar. The Heimar–Artstotszkan War and the Beleran Wars confirmed the country's status as a global military power. Artstotszka emerged from the 20th century as a global superpower, and the 2nd country with nuclear weapons. Artstotszka is a developed country and has the world's 3rd largest national economy. The economy is fueled by an abundance of natural resources and high worker productivity.

Colonial Period

Kitari meeting with Altbergians, In the early days of the Altbergian colonization many settlers were subject to shortages of food and attacks from The Kitari. Most Altbergian settlers were small farmers or Soldiers, but other industries developed. Important crops included potatos, rice and wheat. Extraction industries grew up in furs, fishing and lumber. Manufacturers produced rum and ships, and by the late colonial period the Altbergian colonies were producing one-tenth of the world's iron supply. In the beginning of the Colonial War, Angered Kitari violently conquered the towns of Novy Sobor and Stary Sobor in the name of the empress. Soon,,Artstotszkan forces will have seized All of Eastern Artstotszka from the Altbergians, but the Human population remained isolated by the rest of the Kitari-majority Nation. Excluding the Non-Kitari conquered peoples ,(who were either merging with or rejecting Artstotszkan society), the Artstotszkan Empire had a population of over 30.1 million in 1460. Despite more and more Human Settlers being conquered, the rate of natural increase was such that by the 1470s only a small minority of Artstotszkans had no Kitari-traits.

Independence

The Artstotszkan Revolutionary War (Also known as the Colonial War, until the term "The Colonial War" was applied to the Skirmishes of 1611) was the first successful Resistance against The Altberg Empire . The High Kingdom of Hawkwick recognized the independence of Artstotszka following the defeat of the Altberg Empire (of which The High Kingdom of Hawkwick was a successor of) at The Battle of Surealia. In the peace treaty of 1412, Artstotszkan sovereignty was recognized As the western coast of the continent, as well as the Artstotszkan Mainland itself. The Tribal Council Organized the Coronation of Empress Isabella II in Paradizna in 1414, the first major step to Modernizing Artstotszka. Artstotszka's eagerness to expand eastward prompted a long series of Colonial Wars with Hawkwickan and Heimar settlers in the disputed lands. The Colonial War of 1611, declared against Hawkwick over various grievances and fought to a draw, Increased Artstotszkan cultural values of unity and isolationism.

Industrialization and Expansion

In the Artstotszkan Mainland, urbanization and an unprecedented population boom supplied a surplus of labor for the country's industrialization and transformed its culture. National infrastructure including telegraph and railroads spurred economic growth. The later invention of electric lights and telephones would also impact communication and urban life. The end of the Expansion Wars further expanded. Mainland expansion was completed by the seizing of Vipura from Hawkwick in the Vipuran Offensive of 1731 (often overshadowed by the Hawkwick-Heimar war at the time). In 1821 Artstotszka claimed the island of Elora, a Major trade port between the southern island nations, and the northern mainland nations.

Rapid economic development at the end of the 19th century produced many prominent industries, and the Artstotszkan economy became the world's 5th largest. Dramatic changes by Emperor James XXI were accompanied by large Socialist reforms and policies, as well as protests.

Modern Era

Artstotszka became major player on the world stage after the coup of Aglrinian dictator Generalissimo Menon. This , followed by the outbreak of Civil war in Hawkwick and Vandinium, and the coronation of the Empire's first Colonial Born Empress (Annalise XVIII) has made many uncertain about Artstotszka's future, with a growing movement among the populace to take the title of "World Superpower".

Geography

The land area of The Artstotszkan Empire is 16,000,000 square miles. Artstotszka is the world's 2nd largest nation by total area (land and water), ranking behind Aglrinia and above Drasnia and Vandinium. The coast of the Mainland is large and forest-covered, with the Zyvan mountain Range separating Heimar and Artstotszka (excluding the Grestin valley, containing the Divided city of Grestin). The Artstotszkan mainland is very Flat, with much of it's land producing crops, or sprawling buildings near urban areas. Vipura is forested and hilly, combined with it's cold climate, creates a harsh environment for those living their, a fact balanced by the massive amount of resources in the area, such as Oil, Nickel, Iron, Uranium, etc.

Population

With a birth rate of 5,5 Children per couple, Artstotszka has a significantly higher birth rate than those of many developed nations. In 2010, the Artstotszkan population included an estimated 5.2 million Hawkwickan immigrants with no kitari relations (However, due to the common inter-species marriage between kitari and Humans, few Hawkwickans will have human children, this stifling growth of the Human Minority).

About 81% of Artstotszkans live in urban areas (including suburbs); about half of those reside in cities with populations over 500,000. In 2008, 112 Cities had populations over 2 million, 14 cities had more than 15 million residents, and 4 cities had s population of over 40 million (Paradizna, Elecktrozavodsk, New Elecktrozavodsk, and Solaria City).

Government

The National government is composed of three branches:

Legislative: Made up of The High Council and Parliament, Parliament can make laws and declare war. While Parliament is elected democratically, High council members are made up of the nobility, however they have no voting power and can only advise the Current Monarch on maters (however, their opinion is highly valued)

Executive: The Reigning Monarch is the commander-in-chief of the military, can reject legislative bills before they become law , Sign treaties with foreign nations, ask parliament to declare war, or negotiate wit foreign leaders.

Judicial: The Artstotszkan Supreme Court has the power to repeal or alter parliament-made laws and Impeach Parliamentary officials. Supreme court justices are choosen by Parliament vote, and serve for 60 year terms.
