Etymology

Asirland's name comes from the old Asir phrase, a-ser, meaning without boundaries. There are numerous other theories as well, including the one that argues that Loresians, while invading the north, could have easily meant a-ser, which in their language meant 'the services'. Their ultimate purpose was indeed obtaining services from this country, so this claim is also veritable. Another theory states Slavic people in the west could have given the country its name. Whatever the reason may be, the name holds till date.

Above is a picture of Netralvyet, a very famous hill station in the Keztenovye Peaks. It's situated about 70 km north of the capital city, along a mountain road.

The mountains, formed by the pushing of the south Asir plate with the Aranoviti plate, are young fold mountains which have always been a centre of Asir myths and are still considered marvels of nature. The peaks, crossing more than 5,000 m. in height, are among the tallest in the region. Research is still going so as to which peak among the so many in the tallest. The claim, for now, is the Shemchev'ot Pahast, reaching 6,453 m. in height. The Keztenovye are divided into various groups still, based on their height and longitude. They are, namely:

  • Gangezoú Pahaste
  • Zemloti Past
  • Segrod Pahaste

The Keztenovye were incredibly essential in the formation of the Asir civilisation, as they provided the rivers with all the necessary silt and water. The most important river in the country, the Gangezoú, flows from these peaks. The rivers are rich in sedimentary rocks, alluvium and other necessary materials needed for the fertility of the soil. Keztenovye Peaks make a up a stunning 65.56% of the northern Asir landmass.

Sundratska Bometsk

The plains, or the Sundratska Bometsk as they are known locally, are the most populous regions of the country, stretching all the way from the city of Jangughatérr to the southern states of Levona and Tamalção. These plains are well irrigated thanks to the numerous rivers snaking through these regions. There are beautiful valleys in the north, and picture-perfect coves in the south. The northern plains are further subdivided into:

  • Upratska (Jangughatérr)
  • Bicatska (Ïteh and Eldnybome)
  • Nicatska (southern states)

There are nine major urban centers in this region - Jangughatérr, Greenledorré, Ïteh, Eldnybome, Craveneims, Saint-Pierre, Nouveau Cruché, Medrefsopetnem and Mavdward. Pictured below are, in order, Greenledorré, Jangughatérr and Medrefsopetnem.

History

Asirland was a third-world country, ravaged by famine, wars and internal conflict. Levonian conquests (descendants of the Loresian Empire) were successful as indigenous Asirs never practiced any form of war. But as the oppression grew more and more worse, the Asirs became violent. Assassination of Rein Pierre Levoneu was the first act, followed by bombings in the French fortification, and anarchy. Small kingdoms were established in Asirland, but in 1997-2003, the last king, Götam Dez, agreed to build a democracy.

The Ancient Asirs

Asirland is blessed with a vast chain of rivers and tributaries that cut through the plains like a huge, flowing spider-web. These rivers saw the rise of various tiny city-states, prominent ones being Pahasta (modern day Paharpurastraya), Yahta (modern day Jangughatérr) and Paniat (now in ruins, close to the southern hills). Like many other ancient civilisations, ideas flourished, and so did trade. Various coins made of gold, (still a national obsession) have been unearthed in the eastern and southern mountainous reaches under ruins of ancient, geometrical blocks of stone huts.

The ancient culture also followed a sophisticated religion, polytheistic in nature. This is highlighted by the various human figures carved in the gold coins as well as tiny temples dotted across the southern countryside. In fact, this polytheistic religion flourished until medieval times until the Loresian invasion that saw the robbing of the temples and an effective stamping out of the 'blasphemous' by the superior-minded Loresians. There are just a few crumbling remains and coins to inform us about this culture now. Nevertheless, the ancient map of Asirland was quite similar to today's, because of mountains both in the north and the south, as well as some treacherous terrain in the west. This isolated the Asir region from the rest of the continent, thereby preserving the culture till the Loresians arrived.

The Loresian Conquests

Asirland, a land ravaged with bloody wars, a psychotic dynasty ruling and oppressing the natives to the land. This was the typical scenario of Asirland in the 17th to 19th century. Levonian (originally Loresian) nobles, kings and military 'lords' struck terror in the hearts of the Asirs, who were a peaceful lot who never had any kind of invasion prior to the Loresian conquest of the 1400s. The Loresian 'nobles' put down (rather very cruelly) any sign of protest from the very people whose land they were prodding on. Resentment bubbled beneath the surface; Asirland was such a third-world country, that had any civilised Austritarian been asked about it, he'd have simply looked bamboozled. Asirland: third-world, bloody and so backward - was this the fate of the country?

Independence and the Revolution of 1913

Everything changed, a cold December night, 1913, in the southwestern fortified city of Cruché. Rein (King) Pierre Levoneu (part of the dynasty which ruled and killed nationalism in Asirland for centuries, also whose name is currently in use for the state of Levona) dropped dead from food poisoning in his royal wine. Angered, blinded with rage, the nobles and royal advisers persecuted Asirs, but as they were searching in vain for the criminal, the main building where the troops (surprisingly modern, as if that was the only proper thing the Loresians had imported from their homeland) were positioned was bombed. In a short span of a week, the fortified city of Cruché was stormed by peasants wearing battle armour and yelling in rage. Nobody stood a chance with not a single weapon.

"The Loresians were really so dumb-headed in that instance. When does a person leave every single piece of useful ammunition unguarded? Vanity, sheer vanity destroyed them. Everything should be spread out, not focused at one vulnerable point." - Uraze Gvendraj, author of Un Mistake 'Grave'.

Called the 'Azetska Tremlye Hemnyer Andelmos', this was a grand success. The Loresians who managed to escape pleaded, and the women and children were spared. The basic concept of Levonian in Asirland is due to these very people. Asirs took hold of the fort, stormed other weaponry stations, and took hold of the weaponry, establishing the 'Azedmer Razyos du Asiro'. Anarchy existed - monarchy replaced it - and the cycle moved on, until in 1997, the people of the country finally, inspired by all the advancements outside, hauled in a quick vote for a government. It was ravaged by a sudden protest by citizens across the nation - after which, the king imposed absolute martial law. Once again in 2003, when the vote was held, the dissent continued, when the king decided to go against public protest anyway, and as reforms were brought in, the anger died out.

Military

Diplomatic Relations

Asirland has healthy relations with most of the nations near it and is an active member in regional politics. A member of the EAA (an alliance established by the erstwhile Prime Minister, Andre Suatós) and the UCAS, Asirland is influential, not only in soft, diplomatic power; it also possesses a formidable military with high-end equipment and huge recruitment numbers. Though there are mostly alliances and trade pacts signed by the nation, there are still a few cold feelings - that is, an inward feeling of mutual distrust or hatred. Below are a few nations with which the country has well-established relations.

Rio de Fuego

The first country to ally itself with Asirland, Rio de Fuego has had very strong relations with Asirland. Trade flourishes between the two, and there has already been one high-profile state visit by the Asir PM to Naranja Valle. The countries share similar ideologies and a mutual need for peace in the East; they are also both members of the Eastern Austritarian Alliance (EAA).

The Afanisian Isles

Asirland has largely very positive relations with the Isles, considering the ideologies differ so much. A good relationship began with the selling of the Keztenovyé Mountains, and the signing of a defensive co-operation deal. Obviously, an alliance was also formed between the two countries. Afanis was one of the first countries to trade with Asirland, and is a staunch economic supporter of the Union-States.

Crime and law enforcement

Asirland has moderate levels of crime, but education and rehabilitation prove to be very effective methods of subduing any for of organized crime. However, separatist groups do exist in the west which pose a major threat to national as well as regional security.

Culture

Asirland is rich and brimming with culture - be it indigenous Asir, Levonian or the unique southern flavours.
