History

Pre-History

The islands that make up Prycuse today were formed volcanically around 12,000 years before the present. Because of an ice age during this time, the sea levels were lower and the mainland was far closer than it is today. This allowed the few species of plant and animal life to inhabit the newly formed islands. By 6000 B.C. The ocean had receded and the islands were very similar to today. The first humans made their way to the islands around 1500 B.C. The earliest artifacts and remains found show that organized villages existed in 1200 B.C. on Pryrousa. On Stryrousa, the earliest artifacts date Humans to arriving in 800 B.C. This marks the generally accepted point where all the major islands of the Cusian Island Chain where inhabited. Little is know about culture or the way of life during this time, but it is likely that most villages comprised of just a few families and the way of life revolved around fishing. Artifacts dated to 300 B.C. show a large village in the area of modern day Appirsadion; making it the longest continually inhabited settlement in Prycuse. Shortly after this time, writing became more common bringing an end to the pre-history era.

Early History

(300bc to 700ad) The earliest records dating to 300 B.C. come from the area known in antiquity as Styse on the island of Stryrousa, near modern day Stryion. Not long after in around 275 B.C. the first records from the Appir region were made. Appir grew very quickly after this time, becoming the sole regional power by 100 B.C. Ancient Appir was also the first civilization to start practicing agriculture on the islands. This would give Appir the ability to support far more people than than the hunting or gathering civilizations could. Appir would soon grow to well over 10,000 people in size by 50 A.D. Around this time other popular modern regions began to develop such as: Anvil, Corinth, and Atmir. Belvet would also be founded around this time and it, along with Corinth, would grow to be the rivals of Appir. There were countless small wars between these three cities from 100 A.D. to 400 A.D., with Appir usually the victor. A period of cooperation between the 3 cities would follow. Corinth and Appir would untie under one single ruler in 478, forming the first kingdom in the entire island chain. Other smaller kingdoms would follow but none could challenge the power of Appir at this time.
