The Sophienborg Palace (Greek: Σοφιενβεργκ) is a Rococo baroque palace located in the town of Kaiservilla, 18 miles southeast of Atlantis, Diadochia. The Palace serves as one of the main summer residences of the Emperors of Diadochia, alternating with the Blachernae Palace, which is much closer to the capital.

History

The residence originated in 1697, when Empress Sophia, wife of Emperor Eric III of Diadochia had the palace comissioned. After a few years the construction on a summer palace for her pleasure was completed shortly before her husband's death in 1701.

When her great grandson, Emperor John VI of Diadochia came to the throne in 1758, his wife declared the palace outdated and had it demolished and asked the Imperial Court Architect Andreas Nicolaou to design a grander palace in the rococo style. After four years of construction the Palace was completed in 1762, and was presented to the new Empress Zoe II of Diadochia, her dazed courtiers and astonished foreign ambassadors who had never seen a palace built on such a scale before.
